Harworth Completes Barnsley Residential Deals

Harworth Estates has completed land sales at its North Gawber development in Barnsley to Avant Homes and Harron Homes.

The company has spent the last eighteen months remediating the 40-acre site for redevelopment, following the receipt of outline planning consent for 325 homes in October 2014.  The land sales follow Avant Homes and Harron Homes both receiving reserved matters planning consent from Barnsley Council for their respective plots.

Avant Homes received consent for a total of 174 dwellings and Harron Homes consent for a total of 141 dwellings.  Both housebuilders are now on-site constructing their first homes and expect to sell the first plots later this year; the development is expected to take five years to complete.

Duncan Armstrong-Payne, Associate Director of Development at Harworth Estates, said “I’m very pleased that we’ve been able to complete sales to two well-established housebuilders that have a strong track record for delivering high quality products in Yorkshire.  Combined with the success of our Gateway 36 development we are pleased to be leading the way in the regeneration of Barnsley for the benefit of the local community.”

Katie Charlesworth, Sales Director at Harron Homes, said, “We are pleased to have secured a further land deal with Harworth Estates which will enable us to revitalise this site with exceptional quality homes. Our new development will build upon the success we have already had in the Barnsley area, with properties at our nearby Meadow View development proving to be hugely popular.”

Mark Mitchell, managing director of Avant Homes Yorkshire, said: “This land purchase represents a significant investment for Avant Homes and forms part of the business’s ongoing land investment strategy, allowing us to build high-quality new homes in desirable locations.  Work is underway on the development which has been named Maple Tree Park and we anticipate a great level of demand from buyers.”

Claire Kent, Director of Barton Willmore, the planning consultancy that advised both Avant and Harron in securing planning consent, said “We are delighted to have supported all stakeholders in achieving the vision for North Gawber and unlocking this key regeneration site for Barnsley. The scheme will deliver many benefits for the local community and a range of new homes which are critically needed to support the Borough’s growth.”

These sales mark the latest milestone of Harworth Estates’ developments in Barnsley, closely following the completion of the first three commercial units at the company’s Gateway 36 development in Hoyland.  Further to this, the company has also recently begun construction of a 75,000 sq. ft speculative unit at the same development to take advantage of the lack of available good-quality commercial units in the region.  Retained agents for the Gateway 36 scheme are Knight Frank and Gent Visick.
